Kankakee Drops PSC on Road

KANKAKEE, Ill. --- The Prairie State baseball team was unable to garner a win Wednesday against NJCAA Region 4 powerhouse Kankakee.

The Pioneers, despite a strong effort, fell 12-4.

With the setback, PSC witnessed its season record dip to 6-6 overall.

The Pioneers held a 1-0 lead after one inning before a six-run Kankakee third turned the contest on its ear.  A three-tally Cavaliers' ninth put the contest out of reach as inclement weather cut the tilt short.

Despite the loss, several Pioneers turned in solid outings.

Sophomore right fielder Anthony Dapice (Minooka H.S.) continued his hot start to the new campaign with a 2-for-4 effort which include a run.

Dapice is currently hitting .389 with an on base percentage of .450 and a slugging percentage of .500.

Freshman third baseman Luis Romero (The Virtual H.S., PUERTO RICO) added to his stout first year of college baseball by collecting a hit and walk in a 1-for-2 showing. He also drove in a run.

Romero leads PSC with a .425 batting average to go along with a .477 on base and .650 slug.

Romero has also played long ball three times this season.

Freshman second baseman Phil Northern (John Adams H.S.) went 2-for-3.

The Pioneers will see action next on Friday when they host Olive-Harvey in the team's home opener (2 p.m.).
