Pioneers Drop Heart-Breaker to Elgin at Home

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill. --- For 74 minutes Wednesday afternoon it appeared that the Prairie State women's soccer team was headed toward locking down its second victory of the season.

That elusive second win wasn't in the cards however.

Despite a heroic effort, the Pioneers fell to Elgin 2-1 at the Pioneers Sports Complex.

The setback dropped PSC's overall record to 1-8 and 0-5 in Illinois Skyway Conference action.

The Pioneers grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 33^rd minute when freshman Xotchil Villegas (Morton East H.S.) chipped a ball past the Spartans' keeper.

Anchored by sophomore goalkeeper Priscilla Blemano (Robert F. Hall Catholic Secondary School, CANADA) the Pioneers' defense stood tall, turning away several Elgin scoring opportunities.

Blemano stopped 14 of the 16 shots that the Spartans put on goal.

Elgin tallied the equalizer in the 74^th and then notched the go-ahead tally in the 76^th.

The Pioneers will now travel to Moline for a road match against NJCAA Region 4 counterpart Blackhawk on Saturday (2:30 p.m.).
