John McGee

  • Title
    Assistant Baseball Coach
For over 20 years, volunteerism has been one of the key components to John McGee’s life.

Whether it be putting in time as an assistant basketball coach for Cornell Interventions in Matteson, counseling Chicago’s youth as a volunteer mentor at the YMCA Network or working as an auxiliary police officer in LaGrange, McGee always makes his presence in the community heavily felt.

Add a volunteer assistant coaching position with the Prairie State College baseball program to his resume now as well.

A baseball lifer, McGee enters his first season on head coach Pascual Santiago’s staff in fall 2021, fully prepared to spread his wealth of knowledge to PSC’s eager roster.

McGee, who played two seasons for NJCAA Region IV powerhouse Kankakee before finishing up at Judson University, is a welcome addition to the Pioneers’ already outstanding stable of coaches.

Following two standout seasons as an outfielder at Judson, McGee was asked to participate in a special invitation tryout for the Texas Rangers in 1999.

A 1993 graduate of Hillcrest High School, McGee has spent the past 18 years of his professional life working as a Correctional Officer and Court Service Deputy with the Cook County Sheriff’s Department.

McGee’s athletic career also didn’t end when his college baseball days did.

In 2009, McGee won the Illinois / Indiana Police Boxing Tournament and also earned a silver medal as a boxer at the 2016 U.S. Police and Fire Games.

McGee holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Governors State University in addition to a Master of Arts in Emergency Response from Newburgh Seminary College.  He also recently completed a second advanced degree, this time a Master of Theology, from Governors State, which he earned in 2021.

McGee and his wife of 20 years, Danielle, reside in Frankfort with their two sons, Jacob (12) and Joshua (10).
