Diego Gonzalez

  • Title
    Assistant Coach
Former Prairie State standout goalkeeper Diego Gonzalez will be back on head coach Carlos Reyes’ staff for a sixth season in 2023 as the Pioneers begin the defense of their 2022 NJCAA Division II men’s soccer championship.

Gonzalez’s expertise has contributed heavily to three Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference champion squads and one NJCAA Region IV championship team.  His tutelage was also instrumental in the Pioneers’ run to the 2022 national title, the first ever in any sport at PSC.

A product of Bloom High School, Gonzalez played his first season of collegiate soccer at South Suburban College before transferring to PSC in 2016.

Gonzalez’s lone season as a Pioneer was one for the ages as he produced some of the greatest netminder numbers in program history.

In 13 starts, the 6-foot-2 Gonzalez compiled an 11-2 record.  His 11 wins were the second most in the country.  His goals against average of 0.91 led the nation and his six shutouts on the campaign were good for second.

Gonzalez’s total goals allowed on the season (11) ranked fourth on the national charts while his 1,083 minutes played checked in at seventh and his 60 saves were eighth.

For his efforts, Gonzalez was selected to both the All-Region IV and All-Skyway teams.

After his stellar work at PSC, Gonzalez continued his career at Roosevelt University.
