Box Score CHICAGO HEIGHTS - Prairie State soccer continued to rack up accomplishments in a so far outstanding season.
Freshman
Antonio Leal spearheaded the team's effort to win its first-ever Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference championship. Leal was named the NJCAA Division I National Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 30 through Oct. 6. He is the first Prairie State athlete named Player of the Week since softball player Alyssa Gill won the honor last season.
"Antonio is an important piece in our attack," coach
Carlos Reyes said. "He is a versatile player that if you give him space he is going ot score. He understands the importance of his role and that week he accomplished it."
Leal was incredible in Prairie State's two wins over McHenry County and Malcolm X. The Pioneers defeated the Scots 14-0 and took care of Malcolm X in a 6-0 win. Leal racked up 20 points (seven goals and six assists) over the two matches. His play has propelled the Pioneers (12-3-1) to eight consecutive wins including a win over Skyway rival Morton yesterday to put the squad atop Region IV.
The Pioneers will play two more regular season games against Kishwaukee and South Suburban with their eyes on securing the Region's top seed and home field advantage throughout postseason play.Â
