CO-CHAMPS!: Pioneers Earn Share of Skyway Crown

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill. --- A pair of two-goal efforts from freshmen William O'Connell (Seda College, AUSTRALIA) and Noe Zagar (Lycee Jacques Prevert H.S., FRANCE) helped lift the Prairie State men's soccer team to a 5-2 victory over Illinois Skyway Conference counterpart McHenry Tuesday at the Pioneer Sports Complex.

Following a Morton tie with Elgin, PSC's triumph earned the Pioneers a share of the league title with both the Pioneers and Panthers accumulating 15 points on the season.

The win elevated Prairie State's overall record to 9-3-1 with a 5-2-0 mark in Skyway action.

The Pioneers jumped on the board in the 17^th minute when O'Connell took in a pass from Lucas Obsen and deposited it into the back of the net.

The Scots tied the match briefly four minutes later before freshman Mohamed Ghelaissa (Lycee Robert Schuman H.S., FRANCE) answered back for PSC with a marker in the 30^th.

O'Conell notched his second marker a minute later when he beat the keeper thanks to an assist off the foot of Ghelaissa.

Zagar blasted home a penalty kick attempt for his first score in the 40^th, pushing the PSC advantage to 4-1.

Zagar came out firing in the second half as well, burying a rocket, thanks to an assist from sophomore Seydou Gori (Lycee Jacques Prevert H.S., FRANCE) in the 51^st to close out the scoring for PSC.

Freshman goalkeeper Tomas Labella (IES Emillio Prados H.S. SPAIN) made two saves in the match.
