CICERO, IL - Prairie State and Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference foe Morton were tied with just under two minutes to go.
The Pioneers, who led by as many as eight in the second half, clamped down with two steals leading to breakaway layups to take the lead for good.Â
Prairie State (11-5, 1-0) edged Morton 74-70 in the conference opener on Tuesday.
Jared Johnson was once again phenomenal scoring a game-high 36 points including 27 in the second half. He took over the game and could not be stopped. He added seven rebounds and four assists.Â
Sophomore
Tyler Houston was outstanding defensively racking up five steals helping the Pioneers come back from a four-point deficit heading into halftime. He was excellent distributing the ball with a team-high five assists.Â
Will Mendez (11) and
Rashaad Williams (10) both reached double digits in points. While the Pioneers struggled a bit offensively in the first half, they picked it up with 48 points in the second half.
Prairie State will continue Skyway play hosting Elgin on Thursday.Â
