Madison Upends Pioneers in Season Opener

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill. --- Despite a strong, buzzer-to-buzzer effort, the Prairie State women's basketball team was unable to garner a win in its season-opener Saturday afternoon.
 
The Pioneers (0-1) fell to NJCAA Region 4 counterpart Madison, 74-31 at the PSC Fieldhouse.
 
Prairie State was paced by a pair of six-point scorers in freshman forward Renasia Adams (Hillcrest H.S.) and freshman guard MacKenzie Hammer (Bishop Noll Institute).
 
Adams also pulled down six rebounds (3 offensive, 3 defensive) in the contest.
 
The Pioneers also posted a trio of five-point scorers in sophomore guard Alyssa Quinones (Whiting H.S.), freshman guard Chanteze Holland (Morton H.S.) and freshman forward Azariah Love (Hillcrest H.S.).
 
Holland and Love both hauled down six rebounds as well.
 
The Wolfpack jumped out to a 17-9 advantage after one quarter and led 41-20 at the intermission. 
 
The Pioneers will hit the hardwood next on Wednesday when they square off against Southwestern Michigan College at the Fieldhouse in a 5 p.m. tipoff.
