Pioneers Rebound From Setback, Down Blackhawk Tech on Road

JANESVILLE, Wis. --- After a shocking setback against Region 4 foe Harper on Saturday, the Prairie State men's basketball team was primed and ready to take out its frustration on its next opponent.

The unlucky recipients of this frustration was Blackhawk Tech.

When the dust settled on a hard-fought contest, it was the Pioneers who were left standing tall, following a narrow 84-79 victory.

The win moved the needle on PSC's overall record to 5-5.

The Pioneers were paced by freshman guard Xavier Sulaiman (Oak lawn H.S.) who poured in a career-high 33 points on 12-of-19 shooting from the field.  The 6-foot-3 Sulaiman knocked down six three pointers, pulled down four rebounds, blocked a pair of shots and made off with two steals.

Freshman point guard Javery Johnson (Homewood-Floosmoor H.S.) delivered a 13-point outing which saw him connect on three attempts form three-point land as well as a 4-of-5 effort from the free-throw line.

Johnson also ran the Pioneers' offense with efficiency, handing out a career-high 10 assists.

Sophomore forward Victor Brown (Rich Township H.S.) also scored in double figures, dropping in a dozen points on 6-of-8 shooting from the floor.  The towering 6-foot-8 Brown also tore down 12 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the slate.

The Pioneers will see action next on Thursday when they travel to Joliet for a 7 p.m. tipoff against the Wolves.
