Pioneers Drop Heart-Breaker to Harper

Pair of 20-Point Outings From Johnson, Green Not Enough

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill. --- Despite a strong effort, the Prairie State men's basketball team was unable to garner a win Saturday, falling to NJCAA Region 4 opponent Harper 78-76 at the PSC Fieldhouse.
 
The setback dropped the Pioneers to 4-5 overall.   
 
The Pioneers were paced by a 21-point effort from freshman point guard Javery Johnson (Homewood-Flossmoor H.S.).  Johnson shot 7-of-10 from the field and 3-of-6 from three-point range.  He also dished out three assists and made off with a trio of steals.
 
Fellow freshman guard Darien Green (Christ the King College Prep) added 20 points on a 6-of-14 effort from the floor.  The 6-foot-3 Green also led the Pioneers with six assists.
 
PSC also picked up a pair of nine-point outings from sophomore Victor Brown (Rich Township H.S.) and Xavier Sulaiman (Oak Lawn H.S.).
 
The Pioneers went into the break on the top end of a 43-38 score but were outpaced 40-33 over the final 20 minutes of action. 
 
The contest saw seven lead changes and seven ties.
 
The Pioneers saw their largest lead come at 26-16 courtesy of a layup from freshman forward Orlin Nesbitt (Beecher H.S.) with 10:27 to play.
 
PSC will hit the hardwood next on Tuesday when it travels to Blackhaw Tech for a 6 p.m. tipoff in Janesville, Wisconsin.
