Holland’s 25 Carry PSC To Second Straight

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill. --- Fictitious baseball manager Lou Brown in the movie "Major League" may have said it best when he declared "Ok, we won a game yesterday, and if we win one today, that's two in a row and if we win one tomorrow, that is called a winning streak."

No matter what your personal definition of a winning streak may be, the Prairie State women's basketball team Tuesday night achieved the second stage of Brown's line of thinking when they picked up their second consecutive win, downing Region 4 counterpart Daley College 71-60 at the PSC Fieldhouse.

The win pushed the Pioneers' record to 2-7 overall.

Prairie State was paced for the second straight outing by freshman guard Chanteze Holland (Morton Senior H.S.) who delivered her third 20-plus point performance of the slate.  The 5-foot-6 Holland dropped in a game-high 25 points on 11-of-23 shooting from the field, which included three 3-pointers.

In all, four Pioneers scored in double figures.

Sophomore point guard Alyssa Quinones (Whiting H.S.) scored in twin digits for the third straight contest following a 15-point showing which saw her grab nine rebounds and dish out a game-high six assists.

Freshman guard Mackenzie Hamer (Bishop Noll Institute), (11 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists), freshman forward Renasia Adams (Hillcrest H.S.), (10 points, 9 rebounds) and freshman forward Quinn Fehr (Bishop Noll Institute), (8 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, steal) all contributed mightily to the Pioneers' cause.

PSC used the opening quarter to find its footing, ending the stanza in a 16-all tie.

A Quinones three-pointer inside of two minutes helped the Pioneers head into the break on the top side of a 32-29 lead.

PSC held a 47-43 advantage after three quarters.

Prairie State established its largest lead of the night at 69-52 when a great pass from Quinones set up a Holland three-ball with 2:03 to play.

The Pioneers will try to lock down their official "winning streak" Saturday when they square off against Region 4 opponent Harper at the Fieldhouse (1 p.m.).
