Pickering and Co. Help PSC Sweep Moraine Valley

Pioneers Pound Out 34 Hits in Twin Bill

PALOS HILLS, Ill. --- To say that Prairie State sophomore shortstop Lindsey Pickering (Portage H.S.) is currently swinging a hot bat would be an understatement and a colossal one at that.

Pickering turned in one of PSC's most impressive hitting performances in recent memory Thursday when she went 8-for-9 with three doubles and five RBI in an Illinois Skyway Conference doubleheader sweep of league foe Moraine Valley.

PSC took the twin bill by final scores of 11-1 and 21-16.

The two wins pushed the Pioneers' record to 11-10 and 4-2 in league play.

Pickering's only out of the afternoon came when she went 3-for-4 with three runs and an RBI in Game 1.

As impressive as that outing was, her effort in the night cap exceeded that.

Pickering's 5-for-5, 4 RBI showing in Game 2 put the finishing touches on what already was a spectacular day.

Pickering wasn't the only Pioneer to turn in a stellar performance in Game 2, as sophomore second baseman Faith Lewin (Wheeler H.S.) went 4-for-6 with a trio of runs and 2 RBI.

Freshman first baseman Natalie Kozub (Kouts H.S.) went 4-for-5 with five RBI as well. Kozub, who has been a dual threat all year for PSC, also picked up the win from the circle in Game 1, going the distance allowing just one run on three hits while walking one and striking out two.

Audrey Schau (Hackett Catholic H.S.) went 3-for-4 with 5 RBI and two runs as well.

The Pioneers used a four-run second inning to overcome a 5-3 deficit and never looked back.

PSC will see action next on Saturday when they take part in the Conference Clash, a crossover tournament between members of both the Skyway and Arrowhead conferences.
