Pioneers Upend Elgin in Season Opener

ELGIN, Ill. --- The Prairie State volleyball team pulled off a feat it has not achieved in quite some time Thursday night:  Winning its opening match of the season.
 
The Pioneers got the 2025 campaign off on the right foot, downing Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference counterpart Elgin 3-1 after besting the Spartans in four sets 25-12, 16-25, 25-20, 25-14.
 
PSC saw several players turn in strong outings as freshman outside hitter Victoria Pinho (Metodo Ensino Dirigido H.S., BRAZIL) set the pace for the offense with nine kills.  Pinho also dominated from behind the service line, accumulating seven aces.
 
Freshman middle hitter Nicole Holguin (La Unidad Educativa particular Billingue Santo Domingo de Guzman H.S., ECUADOR) wasn't far behind with eight kills.
 
Sophomore right side Kaylin Buczkowski (Illiana Christian H.S.) registered six kills while sophomore setter Samantha De Laurentis (St. Laurence H.S.) handed out 11 assists.
 
Freshman libero Michelle Restelli (Instituto de Ciencias H.S., MEXICO) paced the Pioneers with 12 digs.
