Pioneers Grind Out Win Against Skyway Rival

DES PLAINES, Ill. --- Anchored by a strong defensive front, standout goal-keeping and clutch scoring, the Prairie State men's soccer team upended one of its longtime foes Tuesday afternoon.

Thanks in part to the aforementioned components, the Pioneers downed Skyway rival Oakton, 2-1 in a hard-fought match.

With the win, PSC pumped its record to 7-3 overall with a 3-2 mark in league action.

The Pioneers have won four straight matches.

Led by sophomore defenders Dylan Mitchell (Truro and Penwith College, ENGLAND) and Juan Rodrigues (Washington H.S.) along with freshman goal keeper Tomas Labella (IES Emillio Prados H.S., SPAIN) the Pioneers kept the Owls off the scoreboard over the first 45 minutes of the match.

Oakton opened the scoring early in the second half but PSC responded in the 65^th when freshman Noe Zagar (Lycee Jacques Prevert H.S., FRANCE) was awarded a penalty kick.

Zagar ripped a rocket past the Owls keeper to tally the equalizer.

The Pioneers took the lead five minutes later when freshman Lucas Obsen (HF Vuc Fyn H.S., DENMARK) corralled a rebound in front of the Oakton net and punched it to the back of net.

Labella made five stops in the tilt.

The Pioneers will enjoy some much-deserved time off before taking to the pitch once again next Tuesday when they host Skyway counterpart Elgin at the Pioneer Sports Complex (4 p.m.).
