History Made: PSC Prevails at Carl Sandburg for First Time in Reyes Era

GALESBURG, Ill. --- For the first time during the Carlos Reyes era, the Prairie State men's soccer team has upended NJCAA Region 4 foe Carl Sandburg on its home pitch.

The Pioneers accomplished this Saturday by way of a 2-0 triumph in Galesburg.

With the win, PSC inflated its overall record to 6-3.

The win provided Pioneer goal keeper Josef Alsammour (Gymnasium Soltau H.S., GERMANY) with his second clean sheet of the campaign. The 6-foot-2 Alsammour stopped four shots en route to the shutout.

Following a scoreless first half, which saw Alsammour turn away a pair of shots, the Pioneers broke the deadlock. Sophomore Seydou Gori (Lycee Jacques Prevert H.S., FRANCE) blasted home his fifth tally of the campaign, courtesy of a free kick in the 66th minute.

PSC grew its lead to 2-0 in the 86th when freshman Juan Arguelles (Colegio Montedeva H.S., SPAIN) beat the Sandburg keeper.

The Pioneers put a total of 14 shots on frame.

PSC will see action next on Tuesday when they travel to Des Plaines for a road skirmish with Illinois Skyway rival Oakton (4 p.m.).
