Debbie Shannon

Debbie Shannon will take over the reigns of the Prairie State volleyball program for the 2023 season.

Shannon, who beat out a strong pool of candidates, replaces Terri Pasko, who guided the Pioneers from 2019-2022.

A veteran of both the club and high school levels, Shannon brings 20 years of experience into her first collegiate head coaching position.

“I am looking forward to creating a culture where athletes are willing to put in the work in order to compete,” Shannon said. “Setting a goal as a team and supporting one another on the way to accomplishing that goal will be a priority for our program.”

PSC Director of Athletics, Joe Belcaster, is also excited about the potential and experience that Shannon brings into the position.

“We are excited to welcome our new women’s volleyball coach, Debbie Shannon,” Belcaster said.  “Coach Shannon has extensive knowledge and experience that will provide invaluable growth for our student athletes.  We can’t wait for the upcoming season.”

A former standout on the volleyball court at Simeon Career Academy, Shannon is in her 21st year as a Family and Consumer Science teacher in Community High School District 218.

Shannon is currently both a head and assistant coach at various levels for the Lions Juniors of 1st Alliance Volleyball Club, an organization she’s worked with since 2015.

Shannon also served as the head varsity volleyball coach at Eisenhower High School from 2015-2017 as well as both the girls and boys volleyball coach at Shepard High School from 2002-2008.

Shannon holds a Master of Art Degree from Governors State university and a Bachelor of Science Degree and Teacher Certification from Eastern Illinois University.
