Box Score CHICAGO HEIGHTS, IL - Prairie State fell behind in the first five minutes of the game but scored seven unanswered goals and cruised to a 7-1 victory over Triton in the Region IV semifinal on Tuesday.
The No. 4 ranked Pioneers took a bit to get going but then struck fast.
Elian Munoz scored the equalizer hitting a right-footed shot past the keeper. Munoz scored again on a play set up by
Henrik Markhoff, who made an excellent run from the back. About seven minutes later the
Jose Rico,
Mohamed Elshafie connection started its excellent work. Elshafie assisted on all three of Rico's goals which helped the Pioneers to a 5-1 lead. The goals were the first of the year for Rico.Â
Munoz scored two more times with assists from
Marc Lopez and
Eric Suarez. The four goals for Munoz were a career high.Â
The win gives the Pioneers a trip to their second consecutive Region IV championship. Prairie State (9-0-1) will play either Morton for the second consecutive year or Carl Sandburg. If Morton wins, the Pioneers will host, but if Carl Sandburg wins the location of the game will be determined by a coin flip.Â
