Thomas’ 29 Leads Pioneers Back to Winning Ways

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill. --- Led by sophomore guard Miracle Thomas (Homewood-Flossmoor H.S.) the Prairie State women's basketball team righted the ship following a tough loss to Rock Valley Tuesday night with an 83-75 victory over DuPage Thursday evening at the PSC Fieldhouse.
 
The win squared the Pioneers record back to .500 mark at 4-4.
 
Thomas led all scorers courtesy of a 29-point, 12-rebound effort.  The outing was her fourth of over 20 points this season and eighth in double figures.
 
The showing also pushed Thomas closer to the 1,000 career-point milestone as she now has 659 career tallies as a Pioneer.
 
Thomas, who is averaging 21.1 points per game this season, currently 17th on the national charts in that category.  Her 169 total points on the slate rank 13th in the country.
 
Thomas also narrowly missed recording a triple-double for the second time this season, handing out eight helpers. 
 
Thomas wasn't the only Pioneer to turn in a strong performance.
 
Fellow sophomore guard Rachael Kapocious (Marian Catholic H.S.) also reached double digits in the scoring column, dropping in 16 points via a 6-of-11 evening from the field.  The sharp-shooting Kaocious also knocked down 4-of-5 three-point attempts. 
 
Sophomore forward Evelyn Ordonez (Reavis H.S.), (8 points, 4 rebounds) and freshman guard Taniya Walker (Hillcrest H.S.), (7 points) all turned in solid outings.
 
DuPage led 24-17 and 34-32 at the break.
 
The Pioneers used a 27-point third period to take charge of the contest.
 
PSC established its largest lead at 75-64 with 2:46 to play following a Kapocious layup.

The Pioneers will see action next on Saturday when they host Madison at the Fieldhouse (1 p.m.).
