Rodriguez Leads Quartet of Double-Digit Scorers Past Elgin

Pioneers Snap Three-Game Skid

ELGIN, Ill. --- With tough losses in each of its last three contests, the Prairie State men's basketball team was in desperate need of a solid win.
 
Tuesday evening, they received one.
 
Thanks in part to a strong overall effort, the Pioneers upended Skyway Conference counterpart Elgin, 80-68.
 
With the win, PSC saw its overall record jump to 8-12 with a 2-3 mark in Skyway action.
 
Led by freshman guard Juan Rodriguez (Colegio Nuestra Senora Del Lourdes H.S., Spain), who tallied 16 points on 5-of-12 shooting form the floor.  The 6-foot Rodriguez also led the Pioneers on the glass, ripping down a team-best 15 rebounds.
 
The double-double was Rodriguez's fourth of the season. The rebounding effort was also a career-high.
 
PSC picked up a trio of 15-point outings from freshman forward Antonio Phillips (Crete-Monee H.S.), sophomore guard Amare Brokemond (Morton H.S.) and freshman guard Isiah Young (Kennedy Collegiate Institute, Canada).
 
Phillips has now reached double figures in each of the Pioneers' first 20 contests.  The 6-foot-4 Phillips also tore down 12 rebounds for his 10th double-double of the slate.
 
Freshman guard Kentrell Matthews (Rich South H.S.) also reached twin digits, tallying 11 points.
 
The Pioneers took control of the contest from the opening tip and never relinquished, racing out to a 53-27 lead at the intermission.
 
The Pioneers will be back in action Thursday when they host Skyway foe Morton in a 7:15 p.m. tipoff.
