Emers’ 20 Leads the Way to First Conference Win

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill. --- Freshman guard Aleah Emers (Centennial H.S.) turned in a 20-point effort Tuesday night as the Prairie State women's basketball team rolled to a convincing 81-59 triumph over Illinois Skyway Conference counterpart McHenry at the PSC Fieldhouse.
 
The win pushed the Pioneers' record to 10-6 overall and marked their first win in league action.
 
Emers shot 7-of-15 from the floor and 6-of-11 from three-point range.  She also hauled down seven rebounds and dished out six assists.
 
In all, PSC saw four scorers reach double figures.
 
Sophomore guard Jayonna Smith (Marshall H.S.) tallied up a 17-point showing on 7-of-16 shooting from the field.  She also recorded a double-double, courtesy of a 12-rebound output.
 
Sophomore forward Rocio Perez de Guzman Basili (IES El Majuelo H.S., SPAIN) and freshman guard Re'niya Ford (Lake Weir H.S.) each recorded 15-point efforts. Ford pulled down seven rebounds and Perez de Guzman Basili five.
 
Sophomore forward Sam Campbell (Villa Grove H.S.) contributed eight points, six rebounds and a pair of blocks and steals.
 
After a see-saw opening quarter, a 29-point second-stanza showing pushed the Pioneers out to a 48-30 lead at the break.
 
PSC's largest lead came when a Ford field goal with 5:47 to play established a 75-47 advantage. 
 
The Pioneers hit the court next on Thursday when they take on local rival Moraine Valley in Palos Hills (5:15 p.m. tipoff).
