Quinones Drops in 18 as Pioneers Search for First Win

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill. --- With each passing game, the Prairie State women's basketball team is moving toward its first win of the season.  It's only a matter of time.
 
Thursday night at the PSC Fieldhouse, the Pioneers continued to show improvement, battling hard against area powerhouse South Suburban on "Veterans Appreciation Night."
 
Paced by an 18-point, six-rebound, four-assist outing from sophomore point guard Alyssa Quinones (Whiting H.S.), the Pioneers came tantalizingly close to their first win of the campaign, falling to the Bulldogs 66-55.
 
Quinones shot 4-of-12 from the field with a three-pointer.  She administered the bulk of her damage at the free throw line however, delivering a 9-of-12 showing. 
 
Quinones wasn't the only Pioneer to score in double figures as freshman forward Renasia Adams (Hillcrest H.S.) chipped in 12 tallies to go along with five rebounds.
 
Freshman guard Chanteze Holland (Morton Senior High School) tallied nine points and ripped down six rebounds.
 
Freshman forward Quinn Fehr (Bishop Noll Institute) registered 6 points and paced the Pioneers on the glass with 13 caroms.
 
The Pioneers played the Bulldogs tough throughout the opening half, trailing just 16-13 after one quarter and led 31-30 at the break.
 
The Bulldogs outscored PSC 18-15 in the third quarter and then 18-9 in the final stanza to close out the contest.
 
The Pioneers will see action next on Tuesday when they host DuPage at the Fieldhouse (5 p.m.).
