Pioneers Right the Ship With Resounding Win Over Southwestern Michigan

Brown, Sulaiman Team Up to Even PSC Record at 1-1

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill. --- After coming off a lopsided season-opening setback against Madison College Saturday, the Prairie State men's basketball team knew that its game one performance wasn't indicative of what the 2025-26 edition of PSC men's basketball intends to be.
 
Wednesday evening, Southwestern Michigan College found this out … the hard way.
 
Fueled by a 24-point outing from freshman guard Xavier Sulaiman (Oak Lawn H.S.) and double-double from sophomore forward Victor Brown (Rich Township H.S.), the Pioneers bounced back with an impressive 88-60 triumph over the Roadrunners at the PSC Fieldhouse.
 
The win evened the Pioneers' record at 1-1.
 
The 6-foot-3 Sulaiman shot 9-of-20 from the field and 5-of-5 from the free throw line.  He also pulled down five rebounds, dished out three assists and made off with a pair of steals. 
 
Brown, a 6-foot-8 transfer from Columbia State tallied 17 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field, he also ripped down a team-best 11 rebounds.
 
Freshman point guard Javery Johnson (Homewood-Flossmoor H.S.) turned in a strong performance as well, dropping in 15 points on a 6-of-11 showing from the floor.  The 6-foot Johnson also handed out four assists.
 
In all, PSC had five players score in double figures as freshman forward Ryan Clemons (Homewood-Flossmoor H.S.), (10 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists) and freshman guard Darien Green (Christ the King College Prep), (10 points 6 rebounds, 7 assists) contributed mightily to the Pioneers' cause.
 
After playing nip and tuck with the Roadrunners through much of the opening half, the Pioneer's closed out the stanza on a 14-8 run thanks in part to six points from Johnson.
 
Prairie State led 42-29 at the break. The Pioneers broke the game open with a 15-0, second-half surge, thanks in part to buckets from Sulaiman and Brown.
 
The Pioneers established their largest lead of the tilt late at 86-54 following a pair of Johnson free throws.

PSC turned the ball over just five times in the contest and out rebounded the Roadrunners 41-33.
 
Prairie State will hit the hardwood next on Saturday when it hosts Governors State in a 1 p.m. showdown at the PSC Fieldhouse.
