Ferocious First Quarter Leads to 15th Win of Campaign

PALATINE, Ill. --- With post season play looming larger, and closer, by the day, the Prairie State women's basketball team is getting healthy and hitting its stride at just the right time. 
 
Saturday afternoon in Palatine was proof positive of this.
 
Thanks in part to a trio of double-digit scorers and an 18-3 opening quarter, the Pioneers raced past NJCAA Region 4 counterpart Harper 60-12 Saturday afternoon.
 
The win bumped PSC's overall mark to 15-6 and in solid position within the Region 4 playoff field.
 
Leading the way in the scorer's column for PSC was freshman guard Re'Niya Ford (Lake Weir H.S.) who tallied a team-high 17 points on 8-of-19 shooting from the field.  Ford narrowly missed a double-double following an eight-rebound effort.
 
Sophomore guard Jayonna Smith (Marshall H.S.) also registered a strong and well-rounded showing, delivering 14 points while hammering the glass for 12 rebounds, five of which came on the offensive side.
 
Freshman forward Aleah Emers (Centennial H.S.), dropped in 10 points (2 three-pointers) and six rebounds while handing out five assists.
 
Sophomore forward Rocio Perez (IES El Majuelo H.S., SPAIN), (7 points, 6 rebounds,5 assists), freshman guard Alyssa Quinones (Whiting H.S.), (7 points, 5 steals) and freshman forward Lyndsey Hodges (Thornton Fractional South H.S.), (5 points, 6 rebounds) all aided the Pioneers' cause.
 
PSC led 40-6 at halftime and 51-8 after three quarters. 
 
The Pioneers will see action next on Tuesday when they host Skyway Conference rival Moraine Valley (5:15 p.m.).
