Well-Balanced Attack Pushes PSC Past Longtime Rival

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill. --- No matter what the sport, an athletic clash between Prairie State and its geographical and Skyway Conference rival Moraine Valley always makes for good entertainment.
 
Tuesday night at the PSC Fieldhouse was no different. 
 
Backed by a quartet of double-digit scorers, the Pioneers downed their longtime foe 68-54.
 
The win pushed PSC to 16-6 overall and 5-2 in Skyway action. 
 
Leading the charge in the scorer's column for Prairie State was freshman guard Re'Niya Ford (Lake Weir H.S.).  The Florida native tallied 23 points on 10-of-19 shooting from the field.  She also pulled down 14 rebounds for her 10th double-double of the slate.
 
Tuesday's outing was Ford's 17th in double figures and eighth of 20-plus points.
 
Freshman forward Aleah Emers (Centennial H.S.) and sophomore guard Jayonna Smith (Marshall H.S.) each registered 13-point showings.  Smith also recorded a double-double after snaring 12 rebounds.
 
Freshman guard Alyssa Quinones (Whiting H.S.) chipped in 11 points while dishing out three assists. 
 
Sophomore forward Rocio Perez de Guzman Basilli (IES El Majuelo H.S., SPAIN), (6 points, 7 rebounds), block) and sophomore forward Sam Campbell (Villa Grove H.S.), (2 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals) all aided the Pioneers' cause.
 
PSC led 16-13 after one quarter and 30-22 at the break.
 
The Pioneers will see action next on Thursday when they travel to Lake County for a 5:15 p.m. tipoff with the Lancers.
