Pioneers Score Shutout Against DuPage

PARK FOREST, Ill. --- Friday afternoon, the Prairie State men's tennis team gave a small taste of what NJCAA Region 4 is in for when it downed DuPage 9-0 at the Park Forest Tennis and Rec Center.
 
With the win, the Pioneers moved to 3-2 on the campaign.
 
PSC got things started on the right foot with a win by freshman Andres Riveros (Unidad Educativa Comoruco H.S., VENEZUELA) at first singles.  Riveros claimed the match 6-1, 6-2.
 
Freshman Yoog Gundani (Mansfield State H.S., AUSTRALIA) won at No. 2 by a score of 6-0, 6-1 with fellow freshman Tendai Chihowa (Princeton Institute, ZIMBABWE) also claiming victory at No. 3 6-2, 6-1.
 
At fourth singles, freshman Sandro Giangregorio (Miguel De Cervantes H.S., VENEZUELA) locked down a 6-0, 6-0 win before freshman Ben Lawrie (Cabra Dominican College, AUSTRALIA) triumphed 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5.
 
Freshman Henry Torres (Liceo Moderno Campestre H.S., COLUMBIA) won 6-0, 6-0 in the sixth spot.
 
On the doubles side, Riveros and Giangregorio were victorious in the first slot, winning 8-2 before the Pioneers' No. 2 tandem of Gundani and Lawrie won their skirmish 8-1. 
 
The pairing of Torres and Chihowa closed out the scoring for PSC at No. 3 with a 8-0 win.
 
Tuesday's would-be Illinois Skyway Conference opener was postponed due to inclement weather. The Pioneers will next take the court on Thursday in Des Plaines when they take on Oakton.
