PSC Secures 11th Skyway Title in Program History

GRAYSLAKE, Ill. --- For the third straight year and 11th time in program history, the Prairie State men's tennis team can call itself Skyway Conference champions.
 
The Pioneers crowned themselves league titlists following a 9-0 win over Lake County Tuesday in Grayslake.  The win was PSC's 16th consecutive win and shutout in Skyway play.
 
Next up is the NJCAA Region 4 Tournament which we be hosted by Prairie State and played at the Park Forest Athletic Club on Friday and the PSC home courts on Saturday.  The Pioneers have the top seed in every singles and doubles position.
 
PSC got off to a strong start at first singles when freshman Andres Riveros (Unidad Educativa Comoruco H.S., VENEZUELA) bested his opponent 5-7, 7-6, 3-1.
 
Freshman Yoog Gundani (Mansfield State H.S., AUSTRALIA) won at No. 26-1, 4-6, 6-4 before freshman Tendai Chihowa (Princeton Institute, ZIMBABWE) triumphed at No. 3 6-1, 6-2.
 
Freshman Sandro Giangregorio (Miguel De Cervantes H.S., VENEZUELA) won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 before freshman Ben Lawrie (Cabra Dominican College, AUSTRALIA)  won at No. 5 6-0, 6-0.
 
Freshman Henry Torres (Liceo Moderno Campestre H.S., COLUMBIA) closed out singles play with a 6-0, 6-3 win.
 
On the doubles side, Riveros and Giangregorio were triumphant at the top slot after winning by default before Gundani and Lawrie won at No. 2 8-1.
 
Chihowa and Torres rounded out doubles play with an 8-2 victory.
