PSC Volleyball Prepares for New Season

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill. --- As Prairie State volleyball coach Rebecca Larios embarks on her first full season piloting the Pioneers, she does so with a host of new faces.
 
And for the first time in program history, PSC volleyball will feature international student-athletes on its roster. 
 
In all, the Pioneers' 2025 roster will have four players from outside of the United States.
 
"Going the international route is something that has never been attempted at Prairie State where volleyball is concerned," Larios said.  "Seeing the great success that both men's and women's soccer, men's and women's basketball, baseball and men's tennis have witnessed thanks in part to having internationals on their rosters, I knew this was something we had to explore."
 
Larios' quartet of internationals will be freshman outside hitter Vitoria Pinho (Etodo Ensino Dirigido H.S., BRAZIL), freshman libero Michelle Rostelli (Instituto de Ciencias, MEXICO), freshman outside hitter Isabelle Flores (AIU H.S., ECUADOR) and freshman middle hitter Nicole Holguin (La Unidad Educativa Particular Billingue Santo Domingo de Guzman H.S., ECUADOR).
 
The team will also feature a pair of familiar faces for Pioneer fans from other sports as well.
 
Freshman defensive specialist Karla Ruiz (Bloom H.S.), formerly a two-year starter on the women's soccer team and freshman defensive specialist Armani Ruiz (Hammond H.S.), (no relation) who played two years of softball at PSC, will help bolster the roster and provide depth.
 
Larios will lean heavily on her three returning starters of a year ago as sophomore right side Kaylin Buczkowski (Illiana Christian H.S), middle Odelia Gascon (Hammond Central H.S.) and setter Samantha DeLaurentis (St. Laurence H.S.) will all be looked at to make significant impacts.
 
The Pioneers kick off the 2025 campaign on Wednesday when they travel to Elgin for an Illinois Skyway Conference match against the Spartans (6 p.m.).
