McHenry Downs PSC For First Time in Decade

CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill. --- A rough opening 10 minutes proved to be too much for the Prairie State men's soccer team to overcome Tuesday afternoon as the Pioneers fell 2-0 to Illinois Skyway Conference counterpart McHenry.
 
The setback dropped PSC to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in league play.
 
The loss also marked the first time that the Scots had bested Prairie State in ten years.
 
McHenry tallied markers in the sixth and seventh minutes against PSC freshman goal keeper Oswaldo Mendoza (T.F. North H.S.).  Mendoza righted himself after the early barrage and went on to turn away the remaining three shots he saw in 45 minutes of action.
 
Sophomore keeper Goncalo Tomas (Escola Secundaria Camoes H.S., PORTUGAL) split time between the posts with Mendoza and also made three saves.
 
PSC placed six shots on goal, but was unable to find the back of the net.
 
Sophomore midfielder Jim Boulanger (Lycee Alfred Kastler H.S., FRANCE) put three well-struck shots on target.
 
The Pioneers will hit the pitch next when they square off against longtime Skyway rival Morton in their home opener on September 4 at the Pioneer Sports Complex (4 p.m.).
