Prairie State to Discontinue Men’s Intercollegiate Tennis Program

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill. --- Prairie State College has made the difficult decision to discontinue its highly-successful men's tennis program following the 2026 spring campaign.

This move will allow PSC to focus on supporting its remaining seven athletic programs at the highest levels.

"Men's tennis will always have its place in Prairie State history," PSC Director of Athletics, Joe Belcaster said. "We appreciate everything that head coach Donn Gobbie and our incredible athletes have done.  Their accomplishments will never be forgotten."

In its 16 seasons as an intercollegiate sport, PSC's men's tennis program built a tradition of excellence that set a high standard within the sport at the junior college level.  The Pioneers achieved remarkable success, capturing 12 Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference championships and nine NJCAA Region 4 titles. PSC regularly fielded teams and individuals who competed at the national level, earning respect from opponents across the country.

In addition to its athletic achievements, the men's tennis program contributed significantly to the college community. Student-athletes were recognized for their academic accomplishments and leadership, serving as role models and ambassadors for PSC.

The decision to discontinue men's tennis will not impact currently enrolled student-athletes for the 2025–2026 academic year. The college will work closely with impacted students to ensure they have the necessary support and guidance regarding their academic and athletic futures.
