Oakton Clips Pioneers at Home

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill. --- Despite putting forth a strong effort and registering the first goal of the match, the Prairie State women's soccer team was unable to pick up a win Wednesday afternoon.

The Pioneers fell to Illinois Skyway Conference counterpart Oakton 4-1 at the Pioneer Sports Complex.

The setback moved PSC to 0-2 on the season and 0-1 in league play.

The contest got off to a positive start for PSC as the Pioneers opened the scoring in the ninth minute when  sophomore forward Shamiah Stinchcombe-Brown (York Memorial Collegiate Institute, CANADA) flicked a shot off of a breakaway into the back of the net.

The Owls tallied the equalizer four minutes later.

Both teams went into the intermission deadlocked at 1-all.

Oakton tallied three times in the second half.

The Pioneers had a strong opportunity to take a 2-0 lead moments after Stinchcombe-Brown scored when sophomore midfielder Tiara Alvarado (Bloom H.S.) whistled a well-struck shot off the crossbar.

Stinchcombe came agonizingly close to notching a second marker late in the second half when she propelled a long blast which grazed the top of the crossbar.

PSC freshman goal keeper Priscilla Blemano (Robert F. Hall Catholic Secondary School, CANADA) made four saves in the match.

The Pioneers will see action next on Wednesday when they travel to Lake County for a road tilt against the Lancers (4 p.m.).
