Wozny Scores Twice as PSC Downs Waubonsee at Home

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill. --- The Prairie State men's soccer team is in control of its own destiny following a hard-fought and physical 3-1 win over Illinois Skyway Conference rival Waubonsee at the Pioneer Sports Complex Tuesday.

The win pushed the needle on PSC's overall record to 5-4-2 with a league mark of 4-1.

The triumph also puts the Pioneers in sole possession of first place in the Skyway standings.

The win was made possible thanks to an all-around team effort led by sophomore Oliver Wozny (Conant H.S.).

Wozny's two goals helped set the stage for the win as he opened the scoring in the 10^th minute, accepting a pass off the foot of freshman Jonathan Castillo (Bloom H.S.) and burying it into the back of the net.

Wozny struck again 11 minutes later when he flicked a ball past the Chiefs' goalkeeper for a 2-0 lead. The marker was set up by a helper from freshman Alexis Natetayavichit (La Salle St. Nicolas H.S., FRANCE).

The lead stretched to 3-0 in the 36^th when sophomore Kais Mahdi hauled in a pass from fellow sophomore Mateo Nabona (IFC Valence H.S., FRANCE) and deposited it between the posts.

The Chiefs tallied their lone goal in the 81^st courtesy of a penalty kick.

PSC sophomore keeper Goncalo Tomas (Escola Secundaria Camoes H.S., PORTUGAL) made three saves in the match.

The Pioneers will see action next on Tuesday when they square off against Skyway counterpart Oakton at the Pioneer Sports Complex (4 p.m.).
