Lake County Topples PSC at Home

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill. --- Despite racing out to a 7-0 lead early in the contest, the Prairie State men's basketball team was unable to hang on Tuesday night, falling to Illinois Skyway Conference counterpart Lake County 91-85 at the PSC Fieldhouse.
 
The loss dropped the Pioneers to 9-12 overall and 2-3 in league action.
 
Leading the charge for the Pioneers was freshman guard Xavier Sulaiman (Oak Lawn H.S.) who registered 23 points on 6-of-15 shooting from the field.  He was also a sterling 9-of-10 from the free-throw line.  He also snagged eight rebounds and picked up three steals.
 
Sulaiman is currently ranked fourth nationally in total free throws with 113 converted.  He is also 20th on the national chart in scoring with 373 points through 21 games.
 
Freshman forward Ryan Clemons (Homewood-Flossmoor H.S.) tallied 16 points and hauled down three rebounds while also making off with a trio of steals. 
 
Freshman point guard Javery Johnson (Homewood-Flossmoor H.S.) added another 15 tallies to the Pioneers' cause to go along with his four assists, block and steal. 
 
Freshman guard Darien Green (Christ The King College Prep) deposited 10 points while pulling down five rebounds. 
 
The Lancers own the battle of the glass, outrebounding PSC 50-30.
 
Lake County shot 31-of-68 (45.6%) for the game to the Pioneers' 25-of-62 (40.3%). 
 
Prairie State was able to stay in the game late thanks to a 28-of-37 sowing from the charity stripe to Lake County's 14-of-19.
 
The Pioneers will see action next on Thursday when they travel to Palos Hills for a road date with Skyway nemesis Moraine Valley (7:15 p.m.).
