Clutch PK, Strong Defense Earn Pioneers Hard-Fought Draw

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill. --- A near-air-tight defense, coupled with outstanding goalkeeping and a clutch penalty-kick conversion propelled the Prairie State women's soccer team to a well-earned 1-1 draw with Oakton Wednesday afternoon at the Pioneer Sports Complex.

The tie moved PSC's overall record to 1-9-1 and 0-5-1 in Illinois Skyway Conference action.

The Owls opened the scoring with a tally in the 19^th minute for a 1-0 lead which they held into the intermission.

PSC responded in the 54^th when freshman Ivana Rubio (Prepa Idel H.S., MEXICO) drilled a penalty kick past the Oakton keeper.

Both teams exchanged shots on target throughout the remainder of the match as both keepers were up to the task.

PSC sophomore Priscilla Blemano (Robert F. Hall Catholic Secondary School, CANADA) turned away four of the five shots she faced and was excellent between the posts.

The Pioneers will now travel to Normal on Saturday to face Heartland in a 1 p.m. kickoff.
