Pioneers Knock off Joliet for First Time in Recent Memory

JOLIET, Ill. --- In the 30-year history of intercollegiate baseball being played at Prairie State, no one inside the PSC athletic department can recall, with any certainty, the last time, if ever, the Pioneers had beaten NJCAA Region 4 power Joliet.

After Wednesday afternoon however, the last time won't be hard to remember.

Rallying from a 3-0 deficit, the Pioneers stormed back, downing the Wolves 6-5 at Joliet.

Prairie State (1-0) scratched out six hits and employed the use of six pitchers to claim the nine-inning, season-opening triumph.

Sophomore hurler Jose Chacin (Bermudez Doral H.S.) picked up the win out of the bullpen for PSC.  The 5-foot-10 Chacin allowed a run on two hits while walking three and striking out one.

Freshman closer Elohim Ramirez (Foy H. Moody H.S.) picked up his first career save in the ninth.

PSC grabbed the lead for good in the top of the seventh when sophomore shortstop Nuno Borges (Colegio CK, BRAZIL) cracked a ringing double which scored freshman center fielder Ian Bando (Colegio Country Kids, BRAZIL) who had reached via an error after attempting to bunt for a base hit.

The Pioneers will see action next on Friday when they host Sauk Valley in the home opener at the Pioneer Sports Complex.
