Fifty Pioneers Earn Region 4 Fall All-Academic Honors

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill. --- It's a cliché as old as collegiate athletics itself.

"The 'student' in student-athlete is the most important part."

Or something to that effect.

No matter how it is phrased, the Prairie State Department of Athletics was pleased to recently learn that nearly half of its student-athlete population took the aforementioned cliché to heart and certainly proved that they truly are students first and athletes second.

When the NJCAA Region 4 All-Academic Honoree List came out for the fall semester, 50 Pioneers saw their names amongst the honored.

"Needless to say, we're extremely proud of the fact that fifty of our student-athletes have been named to the all-academic list for the fall," PSC Director of Athletics, Joe Belcaster said.  "I think the amount of student-athletes we've placed on this list flies in the face of the stigma that athletes at a community college don't take their scholastic responsibilities seriously.  This list proves that narrative to be completely false.

"I think its important to mention as well, that we had several student-athletes who fell just short of the mark for making their way onto the list.  Hopefully, as we move forward, we'll continue to grow the amount of academic honorees each semester."

The Region 4 All-Academic Honoree List includes all student-athletes from each of the region's institutions who have achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or higher in at least 12 credit hours for a semester.
