Pioneers Ace St. Francis For Season’s Third Win

PARK FOREST, Ill. --- Thanks in part to an all-around team effort, the Prairie State men's tennis team earned the third victory of its last season in program history Saturday, dispatching four-year opponent University of St. Francis 7-0.

The match was played at the Park Forest Tennis and Health Club.

The victory pushed PSC's record to 3-1 overall.

The Pioneers swept both singles and doubles action.

On the singles side, PSC No. 1, sophomore Yoog Gundani (Mansfield State H.S., AUSTRALIA) won his match 6-3, 6-1.

Second singles standout sophomore Ben Lawrie (Cabra Dominican College, AUSTRALIA) was victorious 6-2, 6-2.

Freshman Fergus Larkin (Seaton H.S., AUSTRALIA) won at No. 3 6-2, 6-3 prior to sophomore Jonathan Hii (Charles Latrobe P-12 College, AUSTRALIA) winning 6-1, 6-0.

In doubles action, PSC's top tandem of Lawrie and Larkin dispatched their opponents with ease, 6-0, while the Pioneers' second duo of sophomore Tendai Chihowa (Princeton Institute, ZIMBABWE) and freshman Marko Brkovic (Applewood Heights Secondary, CANADA) won their match 6-1.

The Pioneers will see action next on Friday when they travel to Normal for a match with NCAA Division I opponent Illinois State University (3 p.m.).
