Pioneers Take Down Lake County For 33rd Consecutive Region 4 Win

PARK FOREST, Ill. --- The Prairie State College men's tennis team's winning streak inside of NJCAA Region 4 reached 33 straight Monday afternoon after the Pioneers downed Illinois Skyway Conference opponent Lake County 9-0 at the Park Forest Tennis and Health Club.

The win improved the Pioneers' overall record to 7-2 with a 2-0 showing in Skyway action.

PSC's top doubles team of sophomores Yoog Gundani (Mansfield State H.S., AUSTRALIA) and Jonathan Hii (Charles La Trobe P-12 College) won their match over Seth Lampkin and Marshawn Gallego 8-4.

The number two doubles tandem of Freshman Fergus Larkin (Seaton H.S., AUSTRALIA) and sophomore Ben Lawrie (Cabra Dominican College, AUSTRALIA) upended Lake County's Anthony Shultis and Chris Danker, 8-4.

Sophomore Tendai Chihowa (Princeton Institute, ZIMBABWE) and freshman Marco Brkovic (Applewood Heights Secondary, CANADA) teamed up to down Nathan Popov and Pablo Galan, 8-0 at third doubles.

On the singles side, Gundani downed Gallego 6-0, 6-0 at No.1 before Chihowa knocked off Shultis 7-5, 6-1 and the second position.

Brkovic then beat Popov 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3 with Lawrie following suit, besting Lampkin 6-3, 7-5 at No. 4.

Larkin upended Donker 6-0, 6-1 at the fifth spot with Hii closing out the match with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Vincent Marino.

The Pioneers will see action next on Wednesday against Olivet-Nazarene in Bourbonnais (2:45 p.m.).
