Pioneers Fall to Skyway Foe in Season-Opener

CICERO, Ill. --- Heading into its season-opener against one of its most formidable foes, the Prairie State men's soccer team knew full-well that it had drawn a tough assignment.

And despite a strong overall effort, the Pioneers were unable to garner a win Tuesday afternoon, falling to Illinois Skyway Conference archrival Morton 3-2.

PSC (0-1, 0-1) never owned a lead in the match.

Trailing 1-0 in the first half, the Pioneers went to work, notching the equalizer when sophomore defender Dylan Mitchell (Truro and Penwith College, ENGLAND) converted on penalty kick in the 50^th minute.

Trailing 3-1 late in the match, PSC cut the Panther advantage to a tally when freshman Juan Arguelles (Colegio Montedeva H.S., SPAIN) ripped a well-struck shot from 50 yards out and buried it into the back of the net in 89^th.

Freshman goal keeper Tomas Labella (IES Emillio Prados H.S., FLORIDA) was solid between the posts, turning away six of the nine shots he faced.

The Pioneers will be in action Tuesday when they host Lake County in another Skyway duel (4 p.m.).
