Thomas’ 40 Lead Pioneers to Victory Over Olive-Harvey

CHICAGO, Ill. --- To say that Prairie State sophomore guard Miracle Thomas (Homewood-Flossmoor H.S) has had an outstanding season to date would be an understatement and a colossal one at that.
 
The 5-foot-8 Thomas currently sits eighth on the national leader board with a 24.8 points per game scoring average and 10th in total points (99). 
 
Tuesday evening, she added another feather to her season's cap: delivering the first 40-point scoring output of her career.
 
Thomas' big effort helped push the Pioneers to a convincing 87-57 victory over Olive-Harvey in Chicago.  The win elevated PSC's record to 3-1 overall.
 
Thomas shot 16-of-25 from the floor (4 three-pointers) and 4-of-6 from the free-throw line, she also grabbed seven rebounds and handed out eight assists.
 
Thomas' 40-point game may very well be the first in the history of PSC women's basketball.  Unfortunately, record-keeping during the programs first two seasons was inconsistent.  According to the available statistics, it is at least the first 40-point performance by a Pioneer in the last 15 seasons.
 
Thomas wasn't the only big scorer in the contest either.  Fellow sophomore guard Rachel Kapocius (Marian Catholic H.S.) tallied 15 points with four three-pointers as well.
 
Sophomore forward Evelyn Ordonez (Reavis H.S.) and freshman forward Rocio Perez de Guzman Basili (IES EI Majuelo, Spain) each contributed nine-point efforts.
 
Freshman guard Taniya Walker (Hillcrest H.S.), (8 points, 5 rebounds), freshman forward Sam Campbell (Villa Grove H.S.), (6 points, 6 rebounds) and freshman guard Janiah Green (Eagles Landing H.S.), (6 rebounds) all made strong contributions to the Pioneers' cause.
 
PSC led 19-14 after one quarter and 45-28 at the break. 
 
The Pioneers will see action next on Friday when they take on perennial national power Kirkwood of Iowa in Cedar Rapids.
