Pioneers Split Pair With Harper

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill. --- The Prairie State baseball team pulled to within two games of the .500 mark Monday following a doubleheader split with NJCAA Region 4 counterpart Harper at the PSC Sports Complex.
 
The Pioneers (8-10) dropped the opening tilt 9-1 before bouncing back to upend the Hawks 11-1 in five innings during the nightcap.
 
PSC was only able to scrape together three hits in the opener after falling behind 3-0 in the second inning.
 
Sophomores Braeden Biggar (Christ the King H.S.), Joseph Marin (Harker Heights, H.S.) and Fabian Romero (Olympia H.S.) were the lone Pioneers to record safeties.
 
Romero starred at the plate in Game 2, swinging his way to a 4-for-4 afternoon.
 
In all, the Pioneers pounded out nine hits with freshman Orlando Encarnacion delivering a two-hit afternoon as well.
 
Sophomores Marquise Sims (T.F. South H.S.) and Horacio Cabrales (Thornwood H.S.) both drove in a pair of runs in the second contest.
 
Freshman pitcher Fabian Morales (Waukesha H.S.) was the story of Game 2, tossing all five innings, surrendering a run on three hits, walking five while striking out nine of the 22 hitters he faced.
 
The Pioneers will take the field next on Wednesday when they face Kishwaukee (3 p.m.).
