Pioneers Down Tough Schoolcraft Squad in Seesaw Road Tilt

LIVONIA, Mich. --- In the gauntlet that is the early portion of the Prairie State men's soccer team's 2024 schedule, Schoolcraft was definitely circled as one of the squad's most challenging tests.
 
That exam was administered Friday afternoon and the Pioneers passed with flying colors.
 
Thanks in part to a pair of goals and assists off the feet of freshman midfielder Jim Boulanger (Lycee Alfred Kastler H.S., FRANCE) the ninth-ranked Pioneers came out on top in a high-scoring 6-4 affair in Michigan, Friday afternoon.
 
The win elevated PSC to 1-2 on the campaign.
 
The Pioneers showed great resolve in a contest which see-sawed back and forth in terms of command of both the ball and the scoreboard.
 
Prairie State took a commanding 2-0 lead early, courtesy of goals by Boulanger and sophomore forward Luis Munoz (Don Bosco H.S., VENEZUELA) in the fourth and 10th minutes respectively.
 
Schoolcraft cut the lead in half in the 20th before PSC freshman midfielder Neil Mueller-Adams (Friedrich-Wilhelm Gymnasium, GERMANY) tallied, courtesy of an assist by Munoz in the 24th, making it 3-1.
 
Schoolcraft bounced back to tie the tilt with consecutive markers by Kevaughn Harris in the 27th and 35th.
 
Mueller-Adams opened the second half by finding the back of the net again in the 47th, following a strong pass by Boulanger, giving PSC a 4-3 edge.
 
Schoolcraft knotted the match again in the 52nd.
 
PSC took control one final time and closed out the match with markers by freshman forward Mateo Nabona (IFC Valence H.S., FRANCE) in the 65th and Boulanger in the 83rd.
 
Sophomore goalkeeper Yahir Perez (Bremen H.S.) made eight saves in 90 minutes of work.
The Pioneers will see action next on Thursday when they host Illinois Skyway Conference opponent McHenry at the PSC Sports Complex (4 p.m.).
