Pioneers Lock Down First Win of Campaign

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill. --- At last. 
 
At last, all of the hard work, all of the hard-fought competitions paid off.
 
Thanks in part to a 21-pont outing from freshman guard Chanteze Holland (Morton Sr. H.S.), the Prairie State women's basketball team, after coming agonizingly-close in several of its last tilts, broke through with its first win of the campaign Tuesday night at the PSC Fieldhouse.
 
The Pioneers upended NJCAA Region 4 foe DuPage 73-66.
 
The victory pushed PSC's record to 1-7 overall.
 
Holland shot 5-of-11 from the field and contributed heaviest of her offensive damage at the free throw line, where she delivered a 9-of-11 showing.
 
Holland also pulled down five rebounds.
 
Sophomore point guard Alyssa Quinones (Whiting H.S.) posted her second straight 18-point contest, shooting 4-of-14 from the floor and 10-of-14 from the charity stripe.  She also dished out five assists.
 
Freshman forward Azariah Love (Hillcrest H.S.) also tallied in double figures, depositing 13 points courtesy of a 5-of-13 effort from the field. 
 
Freshmen forwards Quinn Fehr (Bishop Noll Institute) and Renasia Adams (Hillcrest H.S.) each recorded a pair of eight-point showings respectively.
 
Fehr was a force on both ends of the floor, hauling down a dozen rebounds while also recording a pair of blocks and steals.
 
Adams added four rebounds.
 
PSC shot 23-of-32 from the free throw line and outrebounded DuPage 48-33.
 
Both teams battle to a 15-all draw after one quarter as DuPage went into the intermission up ten at 38-28.
 
A 27-point fourth quarter tipped the scales in favor of the Pioneers.
 
PSC will see action next on Tuesday when they square off against Daley at the Fieldhouse (5 p.m.).
