DuPage Outlasts PSC at Home

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill. --- Despite scoring 80-plus points for the fifth time on the campaign, the Prairie State men's basketball team was unable to keep pace with NJCAA Region 4 counterpart DuPage Last Tuesday night at the PSC Fieldhouse.
 
Putting in their typical strong effort, the Pioneers fell 86-81.
 
The setback pushed Prairie State's record to 3-4 overall.
 
PSC was without the services of two of its top scorers in freshmen guards Xavier Sulaiman (Oak Lawn H.S.) and Darien Green (Christ the King College Prep).
 
Freshman forward Ryan Clemons (Homewood-Flossmoor H.S.) led the charge in the scorer's column for the Pioneers, depositing 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field.  He also grabbed six rebounds and dished out a trio of assists.
 
Not far away in the scorebook was sophomore forward Keondre Garrett (Thornton H.S.) with his 17 tallies courtesy of a 7-of-14 showing from the floor.  Like Clemons, he also pulled down a half dozen caroms and handed out three assists.
 
Freshman point guard Javery Johnson (Homewood-Flossmoor H.S.) deposited 14 points while handing out a team-high eight assists.
 
Sophomore forward Victor Brown (Rich Township H.S.) and freshman guard Jordan Davis (Kankakee H.S.) each delivered 12-point outings with Brown ripping down a team-best 11 rebounds. 
 
Freshman guard Dwayne Flowers (Chi Prep) scored five points and registered four assists.
 
The Pioneers went to the locker room on the top side of a 43-41 score at the break, but were unable to keep pace over the final 20 minutes as the Chaparral's outscored PSC 45-38.
 
Head coach Mike Manderino's team will see action next on Tuesday when it squares off against another Region 4 opponent in Daley at the Fieldhouse (7 p.m.).
