Red-Hot Pioneers Down Harper for Third-Straight Triumph

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill. --- The Prairie State women's basketball team is beginning to appropriately represent the old adage of "It isn't about where you start, but where you finish."
 
The Pioneers, after dropping their first seven games of the campaign, walked off their home floor Saturday afternoon winners of three straight following a 56-45 win over Region 4 counterpart Harper at the PSC Fieldhouse.
 
The victory pushed Prairie State's record to 3-7 overall.
 
The Pioneers were led in the scorer's column by sophomore point guard Alyssa Quinones (Whiting H.S.) and her 15 points on 4-of-12 shooting from the field.  Quinones also quarterbacked the Pioneers' offense to the tune of a seven-assist outing. 
 
Quinones, who is putting together an outstanding sophomore campaign, also contributed on the defensive side, snagging nine rebounds while making off with a trio of steals. 
 
Freshman forward Renasia Adams (Hillcrest H.S.) also tallied in double figures, dropping in 12 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the floor.  She also hauled down four rebounds.
 
Freshman forward Quinn Fehr (Bishop Noll Institute) added 11 points and eight rebounds to go along with a block and a steal.
 
The Pioneers trailed 10-7 after one quarter, before a 19-point PSC second stanza pushed the Pioneers into the lead at the break at 26-16.
 
In a game that witnessed a pair of ties and five lead changes, the Pioneers established their largest lead of the tilt early in the third quarter at 30-16 following a pair of free throws from freshman guard Mackenzie Hamer (Bishop Noll Institute), (6 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, steal) at the 7:19 mark of the stanza.
 
The Pioneers will hit the hard wood next on Thursday when they travel to Joliet for a 5 p.m. road tipoff.
