Pioneers Hit the Century Mark vs. Morton

Holland’s 37 Sets the Pace for PSC

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill. --- To say that the Prairie State women's basketball team controlled its battle against Illinois Skyway Conference opponent Morton from the opening tip would be an understatement and a colossal one at that.

In a game which saw a grand total of zero lead changes and just one, brief, tie, the Pioneers tallied 100 points for the first time this season, downing the Panthers 100-51 Tuesday night at the PSC Fieldhouse.

The win elevated PSC's record to 6-17 overall and 2-7 in Skyway action.

While five Pioneers scored in double figures, the clear-cut star of the show was freshman guard Chanteze Holland (Morton Senior H.S.) who delivered both a game and career-high 37 points on 15-of-26 shooting from the field.  The 5-foot-6 Holland narrowly missed a triple-double as she also tore down 14 rebounds and handed out eight assists.

Tuesday's big effort marked the eighth time this season that Holland has tallied at least 20 points. It also was her 15th in double figures.

Fellow freshman McKenzie Hamer (Bishop Noll Institute) delivered a 19-point showing on 7-of-15 shooting from the floor. She also pulled down six rebounds and recorded both a half dozen assists and steals.

Sophomore point guard Alyssa Quinones (Whiting H.S.) chipped in 15 points and dished out eight assists.

Freshman forward Quinn Fehr (Bishop Noll Institute) contributed another double-double for PSC with a 12-point, 11-rebound showing.  The 5-foot-10 Fehr also handed out five assists.

Freshman forward Renasia Adams (Hillcrest H.S.) nearly picked up a double-double of her own, courtesy of a 10-point, eight rebound evening.

Freshman guard Taniya Cothrine-Evans (South Beloit H.S.) snared 10 rebounds and registered four assists with a steal to go along with her seven points.

After Morton tied the tilt at 2-all 45 seconds post-tip, the Pioneers went on a run for the ages, closing out the stanza on a 21-0 spurt.

Prairie State led the contest 46-17 at the break.

The Pioneers' longest run, 31-3, overlapped the aforementioned first quarter  and continued up until the 8:40 mark of the second period.

PSC will see action next on Thursday when it travels to Sugar Grove for a road date with conference counterpart Waubonsee (5:15 p.m.).
