16-Hit Attack in Nightcap Powers PSC to Split With Waubonsee

SUGAR GROVE, Ill. --- Following a 7-0 setback in the opener of its non-conference doubleheader against Waubonsee Monday afternoon, the Prairie State baseball team bounced back nicely by way of a 12-2 victory in the nightcap.
 
The win lifted the Pioneers overall record to 9-14.
 
PSC scratched out seven hits in the opener, but was unable to plate a run.
 
The finale was a completely different story however as six Pioneers recorded multiple-hit efforts with a pair of PSC hitters recording three safeties apiece.  Prairie State cracked 16 hits in the contest.
 
Leading the charge at the plate was freshman centerfielder Ian Bando (Colegio Country Kids, BRAZIL) who went 3-for-4 with an RBI and run scored.  He also hauled in five fly balls, leading the Pioneers in putouts. 
 
Freshman right fielder Moises Vazquez (Andrean H.S., INDIANA) went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored.  The fleet-footed Vazquez, who is hitting .323 on the season, also swiped a pair of bases to up his team-leading total to 13. 
 
Sophomore shortstop Nuno Borges (Colegio CK, BRAZIL) turned in another strong effort, going 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI, double and walk.
 
Sophomore catcher Juan Pinuelas (Goliath Academy, MEXICO) went 2-for-4 with a both a pair of runs and RBIs and also swatted a two-bagger.
 
Freshman left fielder Lucas Oshikawa (Colegio Country Kids, BRAZIL) went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs and a walk.
 
Freshman first baseman Aiden Van Kuiken (Illiana Christian H.S., INDIANA) went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a double of his own.
 
Sophomore right-hander Jose Chacin (Bermudez Doral H.S., FLORIDA) who pushed his record to 3-1 with a six-inning five-strikeout performance which saw him allow a pair of runs on just five scattered hits. 

The Pioneers will hit the field next on Thursday when they face local foe South Suburban in a 3 p.m. first pitch in South Holland.
