Box Score 2 JACKSONVILLE, IL - It's been a long time coming, but the Pioneers are back in action.
The Pioneers opened their season with a pair of losses against Spoon River. Prairie State fought hard but lost 11-5 and 14-10 in Saturday's doubleheader.
Gabe Cortez starred in Game 1 with three hits including a double.
Chasen Lewis added two RBIs. Prairie State got out to an early 3-0 lead before Spoon River erased the deficit with two runs in the third and three in the fourth.
Prairie State got single runs in the fifth and seventh innings.

The Pioneers had a 5-3 lead in the contest, but the Spoon River offense exploded after the third inning. Lewis added two hits and two more RBis in the second game.

Jimmy Boylan,
Scott Gates and
Isaiah Gaines each had two hits for the Pioneers (0-2).
Boylan, Smith and Gaines each had two RBIs. Prairie State made a late rally scoring four times in the seventh but it wasn't enough.
The Pioneers will return to action on Sunday with a doubleheader against Roosevelt University (Peoria). The games will begin at 11 AM and live updates will be available via Gamechanger.
