Box Score SUGAR GROVE, IL - Prairie State lost a pair of heartbreakers in the final at bat against Waubonsee on Tuesday.
The Pioneers tied Game 1 in the seventh but lost 6-5 in eight innings and then lost in the final at bat 5-4 in the second game.
Waubonsee 6, Prairie State 5 (8 inn.)
With runners on second and third and one out in the seventh inning,
Alex Perez put the ball in play to help Prairie State tie the game at five. His fielder's choice put the Chiefs in a tough spot but Prairie State was unable to push across another run to take the lead.Â
Prairie State held them scoreless in the seventh but couldn't hold them off the board in the eighth as the Chiefs won with a walkoff single.Â
Chasen Lewis and
Scott Gates both had two hits for Prairie State.
Scott Gates pitched four hitless innings but still surrendered four runs, three of which were earned.
Isaiah Gaines took the tough luck loss pitching 3 1/3 innings while giving up one earned run.Â
Gates also swiped two bases for Prairie State.Â
Waubonsee 5, Prairie State 4
Prairie State led briefly scoring three runs in the third inning but gave up three in the next inning to give up the lead.Â
Both starting pitchers held the opposing offense in check until Waubonsee scored the winning run in the seventh.
Mike Denton pitched a quality game surrendering only three earned runs.Â
Lewis had another excellent game going 3 for 4 at the plate. Lewis also stole a season high five bases.
Gaines had the other two hits for the Pioneers (3-25).
