Pioneers’ Dreams of Skyway Crown Dashed by Cyclones

PSC's Nine Sophomores Honored Prior to Contest

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill. --- Despite a spirited effort from the opening tip to the final horn, the Prairie State men's basketball team saw its dream of an Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference title dashed by arch rival Moraine Valley Thursday night.
 
The only team to upend the Cyclones in conference play this season, the Pioneers were unable to find anoffensive rhythm, falling to their foe from Palos Hills 95-75 at the PSC Fieldhouse.
 
The disappointing setback meant that the Pioneers (19-9, 10-3) would miss out on an opportunity to earn a share of the Skyway title as the Cyclones claimed the league crown outright.
 
Prairie State was led by a pair of 17-point scorers as sophomore Morgan Rashed (Bella Vista H.S., Italy) and Oluyemi Elutilo (Marian Catholic H.S.) both achieved the feat.
 
Elutilo pulled down six rebounds while Rashed added five with six assists.
 
Sophomore guard Dekari Graham (Griffith H.S.) chipped in 14 points.
 
Sophomore point guard Jeremiah Johnson (Bloom H.S.) added 11 points and five assists.
 
Prior to the contest, sophomores Austin King (Lincoln-Way West), Graham, Johnson, Jacques Eugene (Nova H.S), Elutilo, guard Adam Benson (Rich South H.S.), forward Christian Barbieri (Harris Academy, St. John's Wood, England), Rashed and forward Aloniab Estifanos (Victory Secondary School, Australia) were all honored. 
 
Moraine Valley raced out to a 30-14 lead and led 47-31 at halftime.  The Pioneers never held a lead in the contest.
 
PSC will close out the conference slate on Saturday when it hosts Oakton in a 1 p.m. tipoff at the Fieldhouse.
