Pioneers Close Out Season on High Note at “Pioneer Palooza”

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill. --- The Prairie State volleyball team sent sophomore Esther Okori, Southland College Prep) and Nevaeh Carbajal (Bloom H..S) out in style Wednesday evening in the team's season finale at the PSC Fieldhouse.

The Pioneers closed out the 2024 campaign in resounding fashion, dropping NJCAA Region 4 counterpart Kennedy-King in three sets on "Sophomore Night."

Wednesday's triumph also represented the kickoff of "Pioneer Palooza" and the unofficial start of basketball season.

The Pioneers won the three sets by final scores of 25-14, 25-11 and 25-14 in front of an enthusiastic home crowd.

Several Pioneers delivered strong showings Wednesday.

Freshman outside hitter Kaylin Buczkowski (Illiana Christian H.S.) hammered down five kills to go along with her four aces.

Fellow freshman outside Odelia Gascon (Hammond Central H.S.) contributed four kills and four aces while Carbajal and freshman setter Samantha De Laurentis (St. Laurence H.S.) fired down three apiece.

De Laurentis also handed out 19 assists.
